NYC's Ban on Foam Containers Takes Effect

 foam pollution

Over the past few years, we have seen the slow ban of single-use items that can be potentially harmful to the environment.  The latest has been the crackdown on plastic straws and plastic containers.  Starting in 2019, another big stride has been made towards single-use containers in NYC.  The ban on foam containers and foam packing peanuts has officially been instated.  Although businesses won't see fines until June 30th, after this date the fine could be as much as $1,000 per offense.  The ban was first proposed in 2013 by Mayor Bloomberg and was met with some resistance over the years, but finally, it is in effect. This means a lot for the city of NYC and is a huge step in cleaning up the polluted city.
