NYC's Ban on Foam Containers Takes Effect

 foam pollution

Over the past few years, we have seen the slow ban of single-use items that can be potentially harmful to the environment.  The latest has been the crackdown on plastic straws and plastic containers.  Starting in 2019, another big stride has been made towards single-use containers in NYC.  The ban on foam containers and foam packing peanuts has officially been instated.  Businesses were given a 6-month transition period before the crackdown began. Violaters will be faced with a $250 fine for the first offense, $500 for the second offense, and $1000 for the third offense. The ban was first proposed in 2013 by Mayor Bloomberg and was met with some resistance over the years, but finally, it is in effect. This means a lot for the city of NYC and is a huge step in cleaning up the polluted city.
