Open Bionics: Affordable & Stylish 3D Printed Protheses
Many advanced prosthetic limbs are not too accessible to those who need them because of cost; Open Bionics is changing this. Their goal is to create affordable and stylish 3D printed protheses. The process of creating these prosthetic limbs begins with scanning a persons limb with a tablet in order to fit it correctly. The design is then planned out and 3D printed, which takes roughly 40 hours. The limbs are very responsive as they use sensors attached to the skin to detect muscle movements. Open Bionics is also ensuring kid-friendly designs. They even have a royalty-free agreement with Disney, allowing them to create themed designs of their prosthetic limbs.
