New Wesleyan Book Store to Feature Organic Cafe Owned by The Allens

Ray Allen and his wife Shannon Allen are no strangers to Connecticut.  In fact, Ray attended and played basketball for the University of Connecticut, while his wife is a Middletown, CT Native.  It seems like a no-brainer that they would bring their newly established eatery grown to Wesleyan University. grown is described as "real food, cooked slow for fast people" which is perfect for the fast paced student that would like to get a nice organic meal between classes or during a study break.  The grown cafe will be located in the new Wesleyan R.J. Julia Bookstore at 413 Main Street, near the intersection of Washington Street.  President of the University, Michael Roth, stated “We’re delighted to partner with grown in this exciting new venture. Their commitment to wholesome food and sustainable practices are a perfect fit for Wesleyan,”

Shannon and Ray Allen have committed to sustainability beyond the kitchen as well, as grown uses recyclable cups, compostable paper products, and BPA-free storage containers and plantable menus. Too bad this wasn't open while we were students there! Learn more about grown at their website!
