HempWood to Start Being Produced in Kentucky

 hemp wood

Hemp is such a versatile plant. When it comes to the amount of uses it has it seems almost endless.  You may have heard of hemp being used as an alternative to fabrics, plastic, and concrete; now, there's a new development. It's called HempWood, and as you can probably guess its using hemp as an alternative for wood.  Why is hemp a better alternative than trees?  Well, hemp matures in as little as 100 days, while it takes trees 50-100 years to mature.  In addition, hemp breathes in 4 times the carbon dioxide of trees. We could go on for days about the benefits of hemp, which is why we created our "About Hemp" page HERE.

Fibonacci LLC is the company that is investing $5.8 million in a factory in Kentucky to start producing HempWood.  The processing of Hempwood mimics the growth cycle and attributes of an oak tree. “This hardwood alternative opens up new possibilities within the construction and woodworking industries and emphasizes the capabilities hemp has across numerous sectors,” Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin said of the startup. HempWood products will include flooring, cutting boards, blocks, and even skateboards. We look forward to seeing what the future of HempWood has in store!
