Throwback Thursday: J. Cole - Rise and Shine

 

 This week's Throwback Thursday is actually a flashback to 2011, when J. Cole dropped his first album Cole World: The Sideline Story.  This is probably one of the most slept on Cole songs, it wasn't a single and many people haven't heard it, but he absolutely spazzes on it.  Let's not mention the sample which is absolutely fire.  In fact, this throwback sample is relevant right now, as Lil Wayne just exclusively dropped his single Glory on Tidal.  Glory uses the same exact sample, and its very recognizable.  Check out the original sample below (Greg Dykes and The Synanon Choir - Arise, Shine)

Isn't it ironic that Lil Wayne just inked a new deal with Tidal Streaming Service and his first single uses the same sample as the J. Cole song (Cole is signed to Rocnation and involved in Tidal).  Not to mention that Wayne and Jay-Z used to have a little beef back in the day.  My how the tides have turned, no pun intended.
