This week's Sustainable Sunday presents the adorable Plant Friends, created by designer -- Dickson Chow. Plant Friends is a plant environment monitoring system made up of two sub-systems: wireless, battery-operated sensor nodes and a base station. The sensor nodes are in the form of laser-cut bamboo characters—a bunny, a robot, and a dinosaur.
Plant Friends serve as the perfect assistant botanist, taking real-time measurements of the soil moisture, temperature, and humidity of a given plant environment and alerting the user when the plants need to be watered. For those who are interested to have their own Plant Friends, check out the tutorial on how to build the system on Chow's website (link featured above).
