In Kenya, electricity is very hard to come by. 75% of the population live without access to electricity. Sudha Kheterpal has suggested a small innovated design to help solve this problem. Her instrument, Spark, is a small percussion instrument that can produce enough energy to charge a phone or to provide light for a kid to do his/her homework at night. Spark gathers energy through a magnet inside the instrument that can then be stored for later use. The instrument also has beads inside and could be a great addition to one of the many musical performances that children in Kenya like to put on.
Spark has already been given out in some parts of Kenya and has been proven very effective. Ideas like this one are more powerful than a pair of new bluetooth headphones, or a thinner tablet, because they can actually save lives.
