Unless you studied film history in depth (or are a heavy Star Wars fan), then you'll probably find this as surprising as we did. Apparently, Japanese samurai films were a direct inspiration for the Star Wars idea. It might be hard to connect the futuristic lasers to the ritualistic swords, but once you look for it, you'll spot the similarities.
