NASA wanted to know if scientists could live on a simulated version of Mars, so they funded a year-long mission atop the worlds largest volcano. Sure its not the best simulation of Mars, but its pretty close to it. Not only is the terrain similar to Mars, but they simulated most of the hinderances that would come with living on the foreign planet. For example, communication is extremely delayed by 20 minutes and its email only. Also, there is no contact with any other humans. Check out a short look inside the year long mission below.
